They're looking specifically for people who've been there and done that on the ``implementing mission critical services'' end and that does not, interestingly enough, include myself. :-) Some admin at an ISP or large business site would really be a great representative for us here since they'll be able to speak with some actual authority on the topic of how FreeBSD is working in the field, and with this particular crowd that's also pretty important. On the other hand, anyone who's been around me for more than 5 minutes would probably agree that I'm certainly not qualified to participate in such a fashion. Here's the "official" blurb (written by Strata, not me, which is why it reads nicer than my stuff): ------>%--------------------------------------------------- "Unix on Intel: Implementing Reliable Production Systems" This panel discussion will focus on implementing Unix on Intel hardware to create a reliable, high-performance Internet server. We will have panelists for each of the following operating systems: Linux, NetBSD, and Solaris_x86. Each panelist will present information specific to his or her OS of choice. We have asked panelists to feature the following topics: * hardware configurations that you've found reliable (or not!) * hidden "gotchas" in installing or configuring * standard support features unique to the platform (special facilities for common tasks) * performance tuning for high-volume Internet server * how to "clone" machines for a "server appliance farm" The individual presentations will be followed by a general Q&A period. IMPORTANT NOTE: We assume that each person in the audience has already made his or her OS choices. This is explicitly NOT a forum for religious wars about OS choices! We'll have Nerf weaponry with which to regulate excessive zeal amongst the panelists-- or of the audience! While the occasional cheap shot is often highly entertaining, we'd like to ask the audience to respect the panelists' choices and the OS choices of fellow audience members.
