That is how I use it.  My desktop user is a member of the operator and 
wheel groups, and I make the changes shown.  I do not have hal running 
or even installed. This is on both a desktop and notebook. Several 
notebooks, actually.

If more details are needed, I can check my notebook for them.  From 
memory, nothing else was needed.  But generally these systems are 
upgraded from earlier versions and there might be other settings that 
were changed long ago.
