Thanks for the help, but it still doesn't work.  Here's the section from 
my XF86Config file:

    Identifier  "MS IntillMouse Optical"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option        "Protocol" "MouseSystems"
    Option        "Device" "/dev/sysmouse"
    Option        "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
