This line is a bit longer in -CURRENT because of the 16 char username support. Also, I had to do a MAKEDEV after upgrading to 2.2.6-BETA from a two-week-old 2.2.5-STABLE because the keyboard was dead in X11 othwerise. I think this should be mentioned in the documentation somewhere (that a MAKEDEV is needed after an upgrade).
