When I added the capability to read the extended capcities, I didn't
protect them against use on older BIOSes.  Some of these BIOSes die a
horrible death when called with functions they do not know.

Hmmm.  Looking at the code, it appears that the bug is still present
in -current.  One of the PAO developers sent me a patch which I could
have sworn I applied and committed, but sadly I didn't.  Hmmm.  Let's
look in my inbox... It appears that Mr. Mitsuru Iwasaki-san sent the
patch to me and mobile on or about on Feb 15 (around the time of my
Libretto Problems, so maybe that's why it didn't make it into the
tree).  I'll look at integrating it into the tree...
