I don't recall you showing us the kernel config line from this one; can 
you just check that you had 'tty' on the 'ppc' line?

Note that this is incompatible with 'vpo' which wants 'bio' on that 
line.  We need to resolve this within the ppbus infrastructure, which 
should happen soon.
