freebsd-update is documented in detail in both handbook:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/updating-upgrading-freebsdupdate.html

and its manual:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=3Dfreebsd-update&apropos=3D0&sek=
tion=3D0&manpath=3DFreeBSD+9.0-RELEASE&arch=3Ddefault&format=3Dhtml

I am not sure if it is possible to upgrade directly from 9.0 to 9.2.
In your situation I would:
update ports tree via portsnap ->
update 9.0-RELEASE to latest errata version ->
upgrade to 9.1 ->
update 9.1-RELEASE to latest errata version ->
upgrade to 9.2 ->
update 9.2-RELEASE to latest errata version ->
rebuild all ports with portmaster -afD

YMMV,
