Give your root user a password by command passwd You should add a "user" ASAP though, as working as root can cost you dear if you make a mistake. To add a new user use the command: adduser ALTHOUGH IT WOULD BE BETTER to use: /stand/sysinstall and use the graphical interface: /stand/sysinstall then choose: Configure then: User Management then: Add group then: Add user Put the user into a the group you made, and also "wheel" if user is to be given root privileges. Instructions for what to do can be found by pressing "F1". I would recommend a copy of Greg Lehey's The complete FreeBSD (available through cdrom.com etc) if you already haven't bought a copy ~ it will save you a lot of hassles.
