I think that I would start out doing a src-all.

It looks like you are missing something. I would change your cvsup file.

This didn't do anything. Everything was commented out. My make.conf looks
like
ruby# m /etc/make.conf
USA_RESIDENT=YES
HAVE_MOTIF=YES
USE_128BIT=YES
COMPAT22=yes
COMPAT3x=yes
XFREE86_VERSION=3

NOPROFILE=true

KERNCONF=RUBY

CFLAGS= -O -pipe -march=i686
COPTFLAGS= -O -pipe -march=i686

Some of this is out of date.
