mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/net/nsmb* device)

I have looked, and there is no /dev/net directory, but there is a 
/dev/nsbm0 device.
MAKEDEV all did not change anything.

The smbfs module is loaded, so what am I doing wrong.

 > kldstat
