	Alas, no luck; the sound is still crappy (sounds like an AM radio; 
not staticy, but flat and hollow).  I'm grabbing the source for 4.2-STABLE 
as we speak, and will try that.  Failing that, can anyone suggest a really 
well-supported card?  Something in the $50-75 range (or less if it sounds 
good; I won't be using it for studio work or anything).  Anyway, thanks 
for the help.
