Are you building galeon with -DWITH_FULL_MOZILLA? IF not, you should be. Building against mozilla-embedded is busted for a few different reasons. I haven't built against mozilla-embedded for sometime now, and I haven't had any problems. In fact, I added: WITH_FULL_MOZILLA= yes to /etc/make.conf.
