Pretty much, as they're required to get networking going.
You may find the tutorial at
http://people.freebsd.org/~rpratt/sgml_prev/
to be useful, and in particular, sections 12.3 and 14.
If the networking has you completely stumped at this point, you may find
it easier just to buy the CDs.
