There is also a NCR53C810 SCSI-Controller and a Quantum 540 MB SCSI hard disk, on which I try to install FreeBSD (no IDE-disks present). What happens is: Installing with the first boot-floppy works just fine. Trouble starts when the system tries to boot from SCSI-disks. a.) It either crashes when booting with the following message : Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode : fault virtual address = ........ : fault code = supervisor read, page not present : etc... b.) Or I may get as far to be asked to insert the cpio-floppy, but when I get into the Installation-Menu the machine crashes when I press any key. Can anyone give me a hint what's going wrong? There is another question I have. Quantum specifies that this particular harddisk has 1054280 logical blocks (corresponding to 540 MB). But when I get into the boot menu FDISK some different geometry is displayed stating some 1075649 blocks but only 525 MB capacity. Somehow these numbers don't make sense to me. Is this related to the problem above? Thanks for any help in advance Peter Schmidt I.Institut fuer Experimentalphysik der Uni.
