Hi.  I'm not Dan, by any means, but I'll offer this.  You may want to
boot into single-user mode, edit /etc/inetd.conf and stick 
inetd_enable="NO" in /etc/rc.conf.  That may stop the inetd messages
and allow you to do more troubleshooting.  HTH,
