Because that needlessly involves us in politics. Its not necessary that the ports system dictate an implementation; look at the differences b/t the NetBSD tools and the FreeBSD tools. I'd imagine that there would be a high degree of sharing but in the beginning we want to avoid taking the position of 'dictator'.
