You're right, it's not very clear. jail(8) says the dependencies "must" be created before a jail that has the "depend" parameter, but in actuality it *will* be automatically created. Likewise, removing a jail *will* automatically remove jails that depend on it. I'll reword that. The clash between that and jail_list is better left I think to rc.conf(5). I'll mention something there about "depend" possibly overriding the list. - Jamie
