My personal motivation is when I install a 5-{CURRENT,RELEASE} system
by building from RELENG_4, no linker.hints is created. This breaks
auto-loading of kld's which breaks the boot when it comes time to
mount NFS partitions.

There was some discussion on -current about this and the only comments
I got were ones like, "we need to do this," from peter@. Sorry if you
missed the thread there. The thread subject is "Create linker.hints at
boot,"
