I think that's a good summary and probably what you ought to tell him.

Try apealing to his sense of making Linux compatible with other OS's...

Actually I'm at a loss here. :)  If you do mail the linux kernel
list, which you _should_ otherwise you'll find yourself implementing thier
substandard hack over kqueue for freebsd 5 and a really annoying thing
to emulate in the linuxulator.
