At lease I am further down the track on fixing this. It appears from the 
web site that l am _not_ dealing with a memory problem, as the
error always happens in the same place.

The recommended "Signal 11" website suggests that the problem may be
with cpp or the libraries. 
I recompiled the libraries and that did not help.

OK - this is a good idea.
I _did_ in fact find some files that had the chflags set:
I am doing this now.
