If you do mean a ripper (for getting audio off the CD and into a
file) look at tosha, in the ports collection.  It is for SCSI CD-ROM
drives.  There are rumors of IDE patches, but those don't concern
me so I don't know the details.  Searching the mailing lists may
help.

If you're looking for an mp3 encoder, as your subject line suggests,
check out 8hz-mp3, recently added to the Ports Collection.  It is
a fast encoder, wav (I think) to mp3.
