I've had reports that on older FreeBSD releases our gcc did not  
understand a used compiler switch ("-Wno-unused-local-typedefs").

Probably the commit message could have been:

...
Try to use a newer compiler who does understand the  
"-Wno-unused-local-typedefs" switch.
...
