The principal software bit missing from BSD is coscheduling.  I
believe the PGHPF compiler for Linux should suffice to compile
HPFortran code for a cluster, but without synchronous scheduling of
the related processes of distinct cluster nodes, network performance
will stink unless you restrict yourself to running one application at
a time.
