I came across an instruction to use setenv or LD_LIRARY_PATH to tell the initdb command to where the libraries are kept. I'd really haven't spent much time with shell programming and setting up the enviroment beyond disabling the ctrl+alt+del key combination. Where can I find more info on setting up the enviroment and paths for packages? I'm probably going to go to questions for more specific advice about postgres but I figured I need to do some more reading before I try formulating a more detailed question.
