Just a status update. . .

llvm bugzilla 26519 has a patch for clang 4 that
I tested and it made the previously failing example
work: the miniperl built with the updated
buildworld 's clang works instead of crashing.

But:

A) The version 4 patch is separate because the
   trunk patch reportedly did not apply cleanly
   to the version 4 vintage materials.

B) The trunk-patch review
   https://reviews.llvm.org/D33017
   is still pending its review activity.
