I don't know if the author of pkg_update has ever said that, but the author of pkg_version (yours truly) has said something like this on multiple occasions (with respect to pkg_version's -c option). Oh yes, pkg_version will need to be rewritten too, because it uses Perl. I don't know how hard that will be...I haven't even looked at the code in over a year. I don't have any interest in doing this, but I'm sure one of you src/ gurus can whip something up. :-) Bruce.
