In your terminal window, as root, edit the file <filename>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession</filename>. You will come across a section in the middle looking like this (by --- 1235,1245 ---- what your above labels (<application>KDE</application>, <application>GNOME</application> etc) mean, you need to edit some more files: the same ones used by <link ! linkend="x-xdm">xdm</link>. !
