Make world > 4. mergemaster > 5. comple kernel and reboot -- You didn't tell us which -stable you were trying to cvsup. If it was RELENG_4, you have to read /usr/src/UPDATING. It tells you that you can try the make world but if it doesn't work, don't complain about problems until you have tried the build[install]kernel method. There are also some instructions on how to upgrade from something other than 4.x. It is been too long for me to comment on building 3.x-stable. BTW, I never liked make world because I wanted to see things build before I tried to install anything.
