I've been working on some code which borrows heavily from tcpdump; despite
several horrible misuses of the interface and other typical development-
-related stuffups, I've never worn a kernel crash.

I would be more inclined to believe that you have a hardware or
configuration problem, but given that you haven't actually supplied
us with any useful information, I can't help you there.
