Quite unfortunate, but I do really hope that you try both #1 and #2
recommendations, just for educational purposes. Given enough interest,
I'm sure that we can lure other developers (acpi, bus folks) to jump
in.

How about trying -current?

How about envy24 ? Search the archives for possible best supported
version. Please avoid Creative cards especially cheap audigy LS,
Live 512 value or X-FI, for now.
