You make us sound like the Mafia. :-) In any case, I've reviewed this with the core team and they're in agreement with the idea of giving you commit privileges. Since CVS can be something of a headache for newcomers (even if you know CVS already, there are still the various wrinkles to using it on freefall), you'll be assigned a "mentor" for the introductory period, that person being responsible for bringing you up to speed.
