Perhaps the system of governance is flawed. We have
certainly seen recently that it is easy for such systems 
to go wrong -- witness Enron, Worldcom, the United
States, etc.

I've participated in quite a few organizations in my
time, and have an acute sense of when things are going
wrong. Many of the signs are there.

I certainly am -- though not, except for the occasional
contribution, of FreeBSD. One of the reasons I do not
hack on FreeBSD more is due to the nastiness of the 
politics.
