Oh yes I had to apply that patch at the time of that PR in order to
let the meta-port finish building. IIRC the CONFLICTS parm came into
use around that time. (It was already too late for me to switch to
the new 'lite' meta-port; might as well cook the rest of that huge
enchalada ;) .
The reason for the CONFLICTS is because both versions of libshout will
install a same-named shared object under /usr/local/lib -- so the
plist isn't 'really' changed, if I understand your question. I will
put another symlink in there to 'pretend' the older libshout is
installed. Yeah that means everything that uses libshout has
actually been linked against libshout2 instead.
I am only this week getting to test Gnome2 with everything built that
way (there were a *lot* of obstacles, some related, some not, and the
slowness of this govmt-provided PC ;) .
On this PC anyway, things under Gnome2 aren't running too well ATM,
and I need to figure out why. I've studied the Gnome2-on-FreeBSD
webpage and don't think I've done anything else wrong or left
anything out.
One problem is: pulling down the 'Actions' menu then selecting
'Logout' will crash something that it starts. The top menu bar is
unresponsive at that point, including the clock, and the bitmaps
drawn up there are left 'dirty'. Mouse still moves, I can do other
things with desktop icons etc. like launch another app or something,
but nothing on the top menu will work. I haven't begun to
customize anything there.
I have 'gnome-session' in the .xinitrc file (no 'exec'), so when I
select 'Logout', I expect the desktop to shut itself down and return
to the vt/shell from whence it came. Instead I must eventually do
the Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill X11 itself.
If Gnome2 is like KDE, maybe it needs to play a sound during normal
shutdown? and since we have libshout2 installed instead... just a hunch...
That's as far as I've gotten. I'll run more tests tomorrow (hope),
and look at the logs to see if there are any tell-tale signs there.
BTW KDE has begun to act straight and mostly usable, and it is able to
play startup & shutdown sounds okay, and logging out will do so
nicely & properly.
