FWIW I get errors close to the ones you see when trying to do a 'camcontrol
defects':

May 28 10:02:21 p100 /kernel: (pass2:ncr1:0:0:0): extraneous data discarded.
May 28 10:02:21 p100 /kernel: (pass2:ncr1:0:0:0): extraneous data discarded.
May 28 10:02:21 p100 /kernel: (pass2:ncr1:0:0:0): COMMAND FAILED (9 0)
@0xc080fa00.
May 28 10:02:21 p100 /kernel: (pass2:ncr1:0:0:0): COMMAND FAILED (9 0)
@0xc080fa00.

discarded.
