I am in contact with the author which has the new version 2.0 ready for the weekend. I think to make a port as soon as he releases this. It is a fairly trivial work, because the 2.0 is more *BSD aware and compiles out of the box. (at least the pre-version I have tested) When It was ready I'll call for a close-pr 9836 ...
