I hope you mean 8.8.5

In your /etc/sysconfig set your domain name up properly. (or /etc/rc.conf)
You could also have uncommented a sample directive in /etc/sendmail.cf
that is setting "m" to that domain (Dmhost.domain.com" but the name
looks more like the sample from sysconfig.

8.8.7, it's been out long enought that there should be a port/package
at ftp.freebsd.org
