An NCR 53c810 is around $80.  Still a bit more, but you can hang twice
the devices on it.  Internal SCSI cables are as inexpensive as
internal IDE ones, and it's well-known that the rather uniform
impedance across the length of a ribbon cable does make a perfect SCSI
cabling as well.  Of course, there's no such thing like an external
IDE connector, nor an external IDE disk cabinet for that matter, so i
wonder what you are comparing this against? ;-)
