A few other notes re using the version from /usr/ports/security/openssh -

The old binaries for ssh and sshd are still present in /usr/bin and 
/usr/sbin, respectively.

The new binaries default to reading their config files from 
/usr/local/etc/ssh, not from /etc/ssh.
