I use a program called Xcdroast to burn DVDs. I can no longer burn DVDs because I do not have the correct version of cdrtools. This is what I have installed on my system running on FreeBSD 6.2stable: # pkg_info|grep cdr cdrdao-1.2.1 Record CD-R[W]s in disk-at-once mode cdrtools-2.01_5 CD/CD-R[W] and ISO-9660 image creation and extraction tools # camcontrol devlist at scbus1 target 0 lun 0 (pass0,cd0) The following is from the website where I used to get cdrtools binary: This directory includes binary versions of cdrecord-ProDVD for various platforms NOTE: the DVD-recording drivers have been added to the OpenSource part on May 15th 2006 with cdrtools-2.01.01a09. See ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/ There is no longer a need for a key. So, my question is how do I get the correct version of cdrtools to enable writing DVDs? Some weeks back I was having some trouble with gnome-mount which I was unable to figure out in detail. Last weekend I started to experience some similar problems on another machine and I decided to take a closer look. What I was able to figure out is using glabel is causing gnome-mount not being able to dismount mounted volumes and refusing to mount unmounted volumes. The error while trying to mount is a null info message and when trying to unmount a volume one gets a "mounted by another UID" message. When not using glabel (not kldload'ing glabel) gnome-mount works properly. I haven't been able to investigate deeply so this is just a BIG FAT WARNING not to use glabel with gnome as long as this problem is not solved. Probably it's an hal problem and g-m is not at fault. Both machines are recent RELENG_6 + Gnome 2.18. Joe: When the Xorg upgrade has finished (I guess you're busy these days - I'm also currently trying the upgrade path so I'm also unable to investigate till the Xorg upgrade has done) can you point me to some instructions on how we get deeper into this issue? Or are you able to recreate the problem? To recreate the symptoms, just `glabel load', start gnome (and probably restart hal before) and try to mount / dismount volumes. Or use geom_label_load="YES" in /boot/loader.conf Volker From owner-freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 14 11:09:12 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: gnome@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E91A516A402 for ; Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D4DE713C44B for ; Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id l4EB9CIr033327 for ; Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:12 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id l4EB9B5t033323 for gnome@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:11 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:11 GMT Message-Id: <200705141109.l4EB9B5t033323@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: linimon set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: gnome@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-gnome@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: GNOME for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 14 May 2007 11:09:13 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Tracker Resp. Your way could cause a lot of trouble (and eat up your time). You should make sure your dependencies are still in sync (`pkgdb -F'). Your way could cause a lot of trouble (and eat up your time). You should make sure your dependencies are still in sync (`pkgdb -F'). Look at http://www.xcdroast.org/, and you'll see: For a while now the newer cdrtools are no longer fully compatible with X-CD-Roast. A patch from Helmut Jarausch fixes a problem with mkisofs. (There is a link to the patch. If it's not already in the port, then I suggest you submit a PR) Again I remind you, that you can use X-CD-Roast with the new cdrtools (including the free DVD-support, without the need for a key) when you copy the binary from "cdrecord" to "cdrecord.prodvd" and start X-CD-Roast with the "-n" option (to skip the version check). On one machine I'm accessing FAT + NTFS volumes and the other machine provides just ufs2 volumes. This issue took my attention while seeing the same messages on a perfectly working machine after loading glabel in an xterm session. To figure out it's really glabel + Gnome causing the trouble, I set geom_label_load="YES", rebooted and saw the same problems as my notebook showed. When not loading glabel at boot, everything works perfectly with g-m. Currently I'm unable to further investigate as the machine is compiling for modular Xorg upgrade. I'll try more and post lshal, dmesg etc. when the 7.2 upgrade has done. Thx! After I finished I launched Gnome and every things looked ok until I tried to adjust the time. I had this error: "The configuration could not be loaded" Searching on the web, I found couple links that refer to the problem. Mainly, I refer to this: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bug/59946 I followed the suggestions without any success. I think that I noted is when I launched gksudo users-admin I have this error: (users-admin:926): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends: The name org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends was not provided by any .service files I checked the configuration and I enable dbu within rc.conf. I reboot and I still have the same problem. I rechecked my ports to be sure that I didn't miss any update and so far all are ok. Any ideas on how to fix this error on Freebsd?
