As to how you'll get it converted to divx, there are a number of linux tools
for this (not sure at all which ones work and don't).  Search sourceforge.net,
take a gander through the ports etc.  There appear to be a number of ports:

Mostly MPEG & AVI to DivX converters

A ported capture utility that utilizes the brooktree chipset
