 This seems that your XFree86 version < 3.3.3.
 Install new X and this error would be vanished.
 
 Kris's port works on my -CURRENT/3.3.3 box.
 
 To support earlier versions of X, -rpath or LD_RUN_PATH is requied.
 Comparing xc/config/cf/FreeBSD.cf between 3.3.3 and yours will help
 you.
