Okay, for fun, I decided to try upgrading to -STABLE (currently 4.7-PR)
to see if that made any difference. Now, instead of showing up as a ugen
device, the Memory Stick Slot does appear as a umass:
umass0: Sony USB Memory Stick Slot, rev 1.10/1.83, addr 2

However, it also takes a long time to boot, since I have to see the
following set of messages 4 times:
umass0: CBI reset failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: CBI bulk-in stall clear failed, TIMEOUT
umass0: CBI bulk-out stall clear failed, TIMEOUT

BTW, I'm crossposting this to -stable since it's now a PR box (cvsupped
and compiled this morning) and this may be annoying for other users of
this laptop if they try to upgrade, since the first error message takes
a while to display, they may think the kernel has hung.
