Nothing that I see that would cause this problem. It seems to be hinged on your sound settings. Why I can't say for sure. Delete the sound/system file again, then login, and add the sound monitor applet to your panel. Then, launch the apps you want, and save your current session. Logout, and log back in. See if things still work, and see if you have sound.
