Nope.  I use 'cu'.  'cu -s 38400 -l /dev/cuaa0' and then dial the
modem by hand.  Works for me...

I think you have your tty settings totally toasted.  Do you do anything at
all strange in your shell startup?  What are you logging in _from_?
