	is it really killing the machine, or can you kill the server with
CTRL+ALT+BKSP.

	can you switch to other virtual consoles?

	can you ping/rlogin from another machine?

	i would suspect something is not quite right with the XF86Config file
(maybe either the clockchip or RAMDAC settings ??).
