Have you not discovered the FreeBSD ports collection?  If you are WWW 
enabled, go to http://www.freebsd.org/.  Otherwise, ftp to 
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports.  There you will find pine and 
top.  Don't know about free.
