Thanks Tim! I updated my libarchive, and backed out the local hack that checks the return value of archive_write_header(). Now things work fine: $ find bsdcpio | ./bsdcpio -p -dmu /tmp/koko bsdcpio: 'bsdcpio': Can't create '/tmp/koko/bsdcpio': Permission denied 0 blocks
