I remember that the author said he would maintain both versions (when he
announced he was bringing out a GPL licensed version) and one person
deliberately misunderstood. The reason, as I understood it, was because
the person (I won't name) simply wanted to move userland software to
ports, and saw this as an opportunity to further that goal. That was
after I made it clear then that the author had stated the intention of
maintaining both versions.

I'll go back and ask him, see if anything's changed.
