I understand completely

Part of my original question was how to figure out if I am picking up source
that has a includes a specific fix; or where to find xorg patches source or
otherwise. I shouldn't need a how-to, just a pointer to same 8)

I do not think my laptop and/or its card effect a large number of users, but I
am happy to test things. I just need a nudge on finding some info to get me
started.
