 in sio.c
 look for the test where it sets failure[1] through failure[4]
 there is a delay there.. I just increased it to 10000
 so it would find some modems.. you might do the same..
 (I checked in the change so it should be in -current now)

best thing to do....
boot -c
flags sio2 0x80
quit

dmesg shold show you which tests failed...
if it's 3 and 4, then do the  above patch..
